So what's it all about?
Boston Spa Village Hall saw its centenary in 2009. So we launched the centenary year celebrations on 21 February 2009 at Boston Spa Village Hall with the first of the annual Boston Spa Beer Festivals.
The beer festival is a joint venture between the Village Hall Management Committee, the Friends of St. Mary’s School and the Jazz in the Spa and the funds raised are for projects at the Village Hall and the School.
The Village Hall has provided excellent service to the local community over the last 100 years. To ensure this continues there is a need to raise money to supplement normal income as the Hall is in constant need of maintenance and improvements the most recent examples are the kitchen and drainage system. The Village Hall now needs funds to upgrade the heating system, improve fire safety measures and for redecoration. It has been decided to join with the Friends of St Mary’s Primary School who also need to raise funds for their planned future development which will include additional space for community use.
We are confident of attracting a great deal of support from individuals and local businesses and we have a number of great sponsorship opportunities.
For those unfamiliar with Boston Spa the new Boston Spa Trustees Hall, as it was originally known, was officially opened on Thursday and Friday, 27th and 28th May 1909 with a grand opening Bazaar to raise the £500 to clear the hall from debt. On the first day it was opened by the Hon Mrs G.R. Lane-Fox (later Lady Bingley) and on the second day by the Rt Hon J Lloyd Wharton MP. Admission before 6pm was 6d and after 6pm 3d. In 1970 the name of the Hall was changed to the Village Hall.
Whilst raising money is the principal reason for the event it will be an excellent celebration of Yorkshire Ales all served in their prime. We WILL NOT compromise the quality of the beer, it will be served at cellar temperature, and after sufficient time to settle properly. One of the key criteria for the event is to excel in the quality of the beer service
