A Major Police Operation took place in the layby of the A58 today. HMRC Officers checked over 130 diesel tanks for illegal use of red agricultural diesel. Environmental Enforcement issued scores of notices on drivers of commercial vehicles to check for licence infringements.
Meanwhile Police officers stopped and checked well over 100 cars. So far two cars have been seized and another was search for drugs.
Inspector Griffiths of Wetherby Police said, “This has been a very successful operation. We have been very fortunate to have such enthusiastic support from the training school. They have brought with them two dozen student officers who are nearing the end of their training period. Those officers were engaged on the lay-by on the A58, with the staff from Regional Roads Policing (RRP) and in the prisons.
“RRP staff brought with them vehicles equipped with the latest technology for detecting travelling criminals. From their work we were able to take two illegal vehicles off the road by lunchtime!"
“All in all a good day and one that I hope shows you what we do to make sure your community is safely protected by all the enforcement agencies at our disposal.”
