Cllr Judith Elliot (Morley, Ind.), Lord Mayor of Leeds came to Wetherby on Thursday 18th March 2010. She was met at Wetherby Police station by the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, Mr Jeremy Burton and the Mayor of Wetherby Edna Hilditch. Inspector Marcus Griffiths of the Wetherby policing team hosted the event.
The Lord Mayor went on a tour of Wetherby town centre with local officers and was introduced to members of the community. After her visit she said, “This has been a very special day and I really enjoyed meeting people in Wetherby. There is a real community spirit in this town.” She was escorted by Special Constable Paul Rowden on her tour, an officer who many of you will know as the long serving community bobby for Wetherby.
Inspector Griffiths commented, “It was an honour to have the Lord Mayor come to Wetherby. It provided us with a real opportunity to showcase how good Wetherby is and what we have to offer. I think we were able to show her what a thriving place Wetherby is and what our local community get up to. During her visit she had an audience with the Old Man’s Parliament in the Garden of Rest which went down very well.”
