Watch Your Number!
Wetherby Neighbourhood Policing Team has recorded a small rise in car registration plates stolen from cars in the Wetherby area. On the face of it it looks like a small prank, but what drives this behaviour?
Car Cloning
This is where a stolen car is fitted or identified with the number plates of another car. The car will normally fit the make, colour and model. The net effect is, the stolen car now has your cars identity.
How Can It Affect You?
When the stolen car commits traffic offences such as speeding or parking, you receive the fines or notices on your doorstep.
What Can You Do To Help Prevent This Action?
A good solution to help the would-be theif is to fit sticky pads to the back of the number plate. The pads should be strong enough to prevent the number plate from being pulled off, even when the screws are removed.
Another solution is to fit anti-theft screws to the number plates instead of the standard screws.
Local Officers To Help Fit Anti-Theft Screws
The Wetherby Neighbourhood Policing Team will be offering the chance to have Aniti-Theft screws fitted to cars of residents in Wetherby and Harewood.
Keep an eye out for dates on the Wetherby Police Website.
